First Line Med

FLM (First Line Med) Project operates as a project within the Anatta Foundation (Public Benefit Company), providing long-term, free psychological support to survivors of the October 7th attacks in the Gaza border communities and the Nova festival, as well as to the families of the deceased, hostages, and those released from captivity. The project was established during the week of October 7th to provide an immediate response to the urgent need for prolonged health care, led by senior professionals in the field. For many patients, the trauma continues, presenting severe and ongoing challenges such as the loss of loved ones, displacement, and the uncertainty surrounding missing family members. The FLM project operates in full collaboration with the National Insurance Institute, the Ministry of Defense, and the "Iron Swords" sections within the Ministries of Health and Welfare.

We are proud to share that the FLM Project was granted second place in the category of psychoanalytic aid in situations of emergency and crisis by the International Psychoanalytical Association’s committee on “IPA in the Community and the World.”
This recognition also came with a financial grant, acknowledging the significance and professionalism of the team’s therapeutic work in support of the victims of the massacre and their families.

FLM Project – Key Features
Highly Experienced Professionals
The project consists of approximately 450 top professionals in psychoanalysis and group analysis, all with specialized expertise in long-term treatment of traumatic grief.

Long-Term Care
While most psychological support services in Israel are short-termed, FLM is committed to providing three years of free treatment for the victims of October 7th. This extended care is crucial as we understand that complex trauma requires long-term healing.

Support for All Levels of Affected Families

  • FLM treats direct victims (parents, siblings, children, and spouses) with treatment funded by the government (National Insurance Institute, Ministry of Defense).
  • FLM also extends support to secondary circle victims, including grandparents and grandchildren, as well as tertiary circle victims such as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. These individuals often serve as primary caregivers for direct victims while simultaneously coping with their own profound trauma and loss. Psychological care for secondary and tertiary circle victims is made possible through philanthropic contributions from donors in Israel and abroad.

Support Groups

FLM offers 16-week weekly group therapy sessions led by experienced group therapists for victims in all affected circles (e.g., parents of murdered hostages, bereaved siblings).

Psychiatric Support

FLM provides immediate nationwide psychiatric services, ensuring that no one is left without the care they need.

Research and Documentation
The FLM team has developed significant expertise in treating complex trauma and has documented their experiences and published over ten articles in leading journals worldwide.

Public Outreach and Advocacy
Our leadership team actively engages in public awareness through lectures and media outreach both in Israel and internationally, ensuring that the need for mental health support is widely recognized.

Ongoing Fundraising

The FLM leadership is dedicated to constant fundraising efforts to ensure the continuation of high-quality care for all those in need.

Impact of FLM as of March 2025

  • Over 500 individuals treated to date, the majority of whom are family members of hostages, survivors of the Gaza border communities and the Nova festival, and bereaved families.
  • More than 7,400 therapy hours have been provided entirely through philanthropic donations.
  • On average, 700 therapy sessions per month are conducted by the FLM project.

Ongoing Need for Support
We continue to receive requests for assistance from additional affected individuals—some of whom are just now seeking help, while others have completed the state-funded short-term care and still require ongoing professional support.
To honor our commitment to three years of therapy for current patients and to support new applicants, we urgently need additional funding.

  • Annual cost per patient: ₪20,000
  • Three-year cost per patient: ₪60,000
  • Funding for 100 patients per year: $550,000 (at $110 per therapy hour, in line with National Insurance Institute reimbursement rates).
The Anatta Foundation holds Section 46 tax-exempt status in Israel, as well as tax-deductible recognition in the U.S. and other countries.
