For Victims of the October 7, 2023 Attacks
The FLM project was established in the week after October 7 to provide urgent long-term mental health support by senior professionals in the field of trauma. For many of our patients, the trauma is ongoing. This is particularly true for those who survived the massacre but lost their loved ones and are still evacuated from their homes, and, most importantly, for the families of the kidnapped and the freed hostages.

Management (pro-bono):
Founders and chairs - Prof. Merav Roth (PhD), Prof. Ofrit Shapira Berman (PhD), Iris Gabrieli Rachavi. Coordinator of support groups - Liat Warhaftig Aran.
FLM Program – Key Features:
Senior Professionals: The program consists of approximately 450 of the country's top experts in psychoanalysis and group analysis, all of whom possess unique experience in providing long-term treatment for traumatic grief.
Long-Term Care Commitment: Unlike most local programs that are time-limited, FLM is committed to providing 3 years of free care for the victims of October 7, based on our expertise and understanding that complex trauma requires extended, ongoing support.
First and Second Circles of Victims: While the state supports only the first circle (immediate family members), the FLM program also offers care for those in the second circle, such as grandparents of the kidnapped or the nephews of murder victims. These individuals often play a supportive role for the first circle and are also affected by the trauma. Treatment for the second circle is funded through donations. (Link to donate)
Group Therapy: We offer 16 weekly group therapy sessions, facilitated by expert group therapists, for first and second circle victims (for example, parents of kidnapped individuals, bereaved siblings).
Psychiatric Support: We have a nationwide network of expert psychiatrists who provide immediate care when needed, addressing urgent patient needs.
Documentation and Research: Our team has gained unique expertise in treating complex, multi-layered trauma. We document our experiences and have published over ten articles on the subject. (Link to publications)
Public Awareness: The FLM management team actively engages in raising awareness of the psychological urgency to help the victims of October 7 and their families, both within Israel and internationally. (Link to awareness page)

FLM Activity Summary (as of December 2024):

  • Over 500 patients have been treated by the program to date, the majority of whom are families of the kidnapped, survivors from the Gaza Envelope region, Nova Festival victims, and bereaved families.
  • More than 6,000 therapy hours have been funded through philanthropy.
On average, approximately 600 therapy sessions are held each month, supported by the program's funding.

Ongoing Support Needed:
We continue to receive requests for assistance from additional circles of victims, many of whom are only now seeking help or have completed the short-term care provided by the state and are still in need of unique, professional treatment as they strive to return to normal life. We urgently need donations to maintain the long-term care commitment for our existing patients and to ensure we can support new individuals and groups in need.

The annual cost required for funding by donations is 5,500 USD per patient, and the three-year cost is 16,500 USD per patient.
